PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the tracking identifying characteristic of a copying machine by generating plural color components for digitally expressing an original, defining each component by means of plural pixel values, generating an output image based on a difference between the pixel values to which more than two of the plural components correspond and displaying it. SOLUTION: An input terminal 22 supplies digital image data including the plural pixel values which are mutually made into a group in order to permit a color copying machine to form the plural color components which express the input original to be generated. The input original is provided with the tracking identifying characteristic of the copying machine, which is printed on the original and is not visible to naked eyes. An image processing unit 24 generates an output image based on the difference between the pixel values to which more than two of the plural color components correspond based on inputted digital image data. Thus, an output terminal 26 can display an output image so that the tracking identifying characteristic of the copying machine is inspected.
