PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a quantitative determination method in which a sulfonation degree can be quantitatively determined quickly and with high accuracy, by a method wherein, when the sulfonation degree of a sulfone group-containing aromatic polymer having a structure unit indicated by a specific formula is determined, the ratio of the absorbance of two peaks in wave numbers in the specific range of the infrared absorption spectrum of a standard sample is analyzed in double regression. SOLUTION: In order to determine the sulfonation degree of a sulfone group- containing aromatic polymer which comprises a structure unit indicated by Formula I (in the formula, R1 and R2 represent one kind out of hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms and a methyl group) and Formula II (in the formula, X represents one kind out of hydrogen, an alkali metal, ammonia and ethanolamine), the ratio of the absorbance of peaks at respective spectrums out of the wave number of 2800 to 3000 cm-1 and the wave number of 1380 to 1500 cm-1 of the infrared absorption spectrum of a sample whose sulfonation degree is known is calculated by a double regression analysis, and a working curve is found. Then, the working curve is compared with an absorbance whose wave number is identical to that of a sample to be measured, whose sulfonation degree is unknown, and the sulfonation degree is quantitatively determined.
|
