<p>1348820 Fire-retardant polyester compositions ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 17 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 58662/71 Heading C3R A composition suitable for use in the production of fibres, fabrics and carpets having fire retardant properties comprises a linear polyester and (a) an aryl bromide which is a benzene, naphthalene or diphenyl having at least five bromine atoms as ring substituents, any other ring substituents present being methyl or ethyl groups or chlorine atoms, the aryl bromide being present in an amount which provides 1- 10% by weight of bromine based on the weight of the polyester and (b) an aryl phosphate of the formula (RO) 3 P=O in which R is a phenyl, naphthyl or diphenyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more alkyl groups or halogen atoms, in an amount which provides 0À1-2% by weight of phosphorus based on the weight of the polyester. The aryl bromide may be pentabromobenzene, toluene, naphthalene or diphenyl, hexabromo benzene, chloropentabromobenzene, octabromo naphthalene, dimethylpentabromonaphthalene, dichlorohexabromonaphthalene, chloromethyl ethyl pentabromonaphthalene, decabromodiphenyl, pentamethyl pentabromo diphenyl, dichloro triethyl pentabromodiphenyl or chloromethyl octabromodiphenyl, and the aryl phosphate may be triphenyl, tricresyl, tris(tribromo phenyl), tris(dimethylnaphthyl), cresyldiphenyl or tris(chlorodiethyldiphenyl) phosphate. In the examples the compositions comprise polyethylene terephthalate containing triphenyl phosphate with hexabromobenzene, pentabromotoluene or octabromodiphenyl.</p> |
