The coal shearer drive consists of a chain carried lengthways along the conveyor and made fast at face ends for engagement by pinions, cams, chains etc. The chain (3) links (5) form rack (6) sections joined to form a chain. The racks are guided (9) for longitudinal adjustment in relation to the conveyor (1). The chain ends (10) are suspended on the one end of the machine (11) frame or pans (12) to adjust along the face by a preset amount which is greater than the maximum assumed lengthening caused by the curved parts of the guides (9). The guides are themselves in several parts which can be removed selectively to expose the single rack members (5) forming the chain links. |
