An optical transceiver terminal for an optical fibre transmission system. The terminal includes a fibre stub 15 having a high refractive index core 16 and a low refractive index cladding 17. Signals from a light source 13 are launched into a fibre via the core 16, and signals from the fibre are received by a detector 14 via the cladding 17.
