In a thermal process for attaching the base(3) of a package to a covering film(F), pressure and heat are simultaneously applied to the contacting surfaces with a contact plate having a low heat capacity. During the joining process the plate is pressed against the rear surface of the cover film(F) and the temperature close to the film is measured. If the measured temperature lies outside a set temperature range the contact plate temperature is altered to ensure the measured temperature returns to the set limits. Process equipment includes a holding arrangement(1,2) for the package base(3) acting in conjunction with a connecting unit with a heated utility tool(7) for applying simultaneous heat and pressure to the film(F) and base. The utility tool(7) has a heated contact plate(7) with low heat capacity at the end facing the base holding tool(1,2) and presses against the rear surface of the film. A temperature sensor close to the pressure applying plate surface measures the contact plate temperature and produces a signal to indicate deviation from a set temperature range. The signal is fed to a control unit for rapid correction of the temperature. In a process for packaging contact lenses a lens is placed in a recess of a package base(3), preservation fluid is dispensed into the recess and a cover film(F) is attached to the base using the claimed process. Equipment for packaging contact lenses includes a holding device(1,2) for a package base(3), a device for placing a contact lens in the recess of a base(3), a dispensing unit for preservation fluid, a mechanism for laying and positioning a cover film(F) onto the base and the claimed equipment for thermally connecting the base and cover film. |
