PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the objective substance by synthetic and chemically utilizing an oxidase in a bacterium of the genus Janibacter. SOLUTION: The oxidase in the bacterium of the genus Janibacter, e.g. Janibacter brevis is used. (i) Optically active epoxides are produced from a raw material olefin or its derivative or (ii) phenols in which a hydroxy group is regiospecifically introduced are produced from a raw material monocyclic or polycyclic aromatic compound or its derivative.
