The brake pressure regulator has a brake pressure modulator (2) for varying the hydraulic braking pressure for the wheel brakes during the regulation mode, with inlet and outlet valves controlled via an electronic regulator (5). During the brake pressure regulation mode, the working space (10,15) of the master braking cylinder (16) is supplied with the pumped brake pressure, with a regulating valve incorporated in the working piston for regulating the hydraulic flow in the hydraulic circuit comprising the pump, the master braking cylinder and the pressure reservoir. In the brake pressure regulation mode this valve is displaced from its rest position via an operating rod, which cooperates with a movable stop.
