PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a support condition of an operation lever in normal use, and easily control a set load for absorbing energy, simultaneously. SOLUTION: In this energy absorption device for a shift operation mechanism, installation parts 36, 37 formed through from the surface to the back in a lever retainer 30 on which an operation lever is provided to be capable of conducting shift operation, a bush which can be installed to be movable to the installation parts 36, 37 in an energy absorbing direction, and position-regulated in other directions, and a shearing pin to couple the bush with the lever retainer 30 are provided, and the lever retainer 30 is installed on a support member fixed on the car body side by a bolt 50 inserted into the bush.
