A coke oven, provided on each of two opposite sides with a set of metal supporting uprights (3) and a service tunnel (2) at a low level, in which an air pressure which may be slightly greater than atmospheric pressure is generated and maintained. The cross section of the supporting uprights has at least one tubular part (5) which communicates at a lower level with the interior of the corresponding service tunnel and opens at an upper level into the external atmosphere, in such a way as to generate a forced rising flow of cooling air inside the upright and along it.
