PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite slub yarn which can realize a coloring effect giving a richly natural sense, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide a woven or knitted fabric containing such the composite slub yarns. SOLUTION: This composite slub yarn is characterized by randomly having the following structural portions (a) to (d) in the yarn length direction, having the slub structural portions (a) to (c) in a total amount of 1 to 90 slub structural portions/m, and having the average apparent fineness of the slub structural portions (a) to (c) within a range of 1.05 to 10 times the total fineness of the composite yarn. (a) The slub structural portion wherein a multifilament yarn A is placed in core portions and a multifilament yarn B is placed in sheath portions, while forming the slubs. (b) The slub structural portion wherein the multifilament yarn B is placed in the core portions and the multifilament yarn A is placed in the sheath portions, while forming the slubs. (c) The slub structural portion wherein the multifilament yarn A and the multifilament yarn B are mixed, while forming the slubs. (d) The flat structural portions wherein the multifilament yarn A and the multifilament yarn B are paralleled to each other. The method for producing the composite slub yarn comprises subjecting the multifilament yarn A and the multifilament yarn B at least having mutually different dyeing properties to a blending treatment with a pressurized air turbulent flow nozzle, while independently and randomly changing the feeding speeds of the yarn A and the yarn B.
