PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin discriminating device which can discriminate contaminated coins correctly regardless of patterns on the surfaces of coins. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an irradiation means which irradiates the coin surface with light, a first light receiving means which receives positive reflection light of the light from the coin surface, a second light receiving means which receives scattered reflection light of the light from the coin surface, and a control means which discriminates contamination of the coin surface of the coins to be discriminated based on the light receiving signal of the positive reflection light from the first light receiving means and the light receiving signal of the scattered reflection light from the second light receiving means.
