摘要 A display device is provided to minimize gray inversion in a bias ECB(Electrically Controlled Birefringence) mode and to reduce gray inversion. A display device comprises a pair of substrates(410,411), electrodes, a pair of alignment layers, and a liquid crystal layer(445). The electrodes are formed on the substrates. The alignment layers, separated from each other and facing each other, respectively are formed on the electrodes. The liquid crystal layer, which contains liquid crystal particles, is formed at a space which is defined between the alignment layers. When voltage is not supplied to the electrodes, some of the liquid crystal particles are aligned along the rubbing directions of the alignment layers which are rubbed in the opposite directions to each other. If bias voltage is supplied, the partial particles are aligned so as to be slanted for the substrates. The bias voltage has a value between the threshold voltage of the liquid crystal layer and the maximum voltage equivalent to the highest gray level.
