POLLING USING MULTIPLE DYNAMICALLY UPDATED LISTS

A method for polling a plurality of wireless modems from a base station in which the base station individually polls all of the modems and forms at lea st two lists such that each modem is identified on only one discrete list based upon its behavior in response to the polling. Thereafter, the modems identified on each discrete list are polled at a rate that may differ from the rate at which the modems identifie d on any other list are polled and the lists are updated dynamically based upon the behavior of the modems polled in response to the last polling.
