Dentifrice compositions having decreased abrasivity and increased cleaning and stain removal properties comprising an abrasive system and about 1% of a linear high molecular weight polymer selected from the group consisting of polyacrylamide derivatives such as partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide and double substituted guar gum derivatives such as hydroxypropylated carboxymethylated guar gum.
