The cathode ray tube (1) has an in-line electron gun and a self-converging deflection yoke (2,3,4) with a first four pole electromagnetic coil (5) mounted on the deflection yoke and which is wider on the screen side than on the neck side. A second four-pole electromagnetic coil (6) mounted on the deflection yoke is larger on the neck side than on the screen side. The cross-section of the gun is shaped like a race track. A deflection electrode for deflecting the lateral beams is arranged near the main lens of the gun.
