The digitisation has an input tuner with a sample limiter (4) with an equivalent bit precision greater than the A to D convertor. Prior to the A to D convertor (3) a ramp with amplitude corresponding to the Least Significant Bit (LSB) is added to the input analogue signal. The A to D convertor samples above the sample frequency producing an improved output bit resolution.
