<p>An optical fiber using tellurite glass having a zero material dispersion wavelength of at least 2 mum, a non-linear sensitive rate X<3> of as high as at least 1 x 10<-12> esu, and a heat stability sufficient to be processed into a low-loss fiber, wherein a PCF structure or an HF structure having a strong confinement to a core area is employed, thereby enabling light to be wave-guided at a low loss. A zero dispersion wavelength is controlled to within a communication wavelength band (1.2-1.7 mum) by the size and shape of a hole formed in the core area and by the interval between adjacent holes, and a large non-linearity having a non-linearity constant gamma of at least 500 W<-1>k<-1> is provided.</p> |
