The adjusting system has an electric motor (8) for adjustment of elements of a vehicle seat (1). A contact less sensor e.g. Hall sensor (10), measures an inclination position or an unlocking condition of the backrest (4) of the vehicle seat. A control device receives a measuring signal of the sensor and emits a control signal. A switching unit receives the control signal and joins power connections of the motor in different polarities for adjusting the elements in one direction. The control device switches on or off the motor by the switching unit, when unlocking of the backrest is detected. An independent claim is also included for the method for adjusting a unit of a vehicle seat with a contact less sensor.
