Optical recording medium

Optical recording medium comprising a substrate and a layer made of at least one dye of the formula A-N = N-K or a layer containing at least one dye of the formula (I). In the formulae, A represents an azo component based on thiophene-2 or isothiazole-5 substituted in the 3-position by cyano, carboalkoxy or nitro, and K represents a coupling component based on aniline, 1-naphthylamine or 2-aminothiazole. The dyes have absorption maxima in the range from 590 to 660 nm. The recording media can be written and read with an He-Ne laser and are very stable with respect to atmospheric influences and daylight.
