PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate color slippage by compensating the read errors of an image read section. SOLUTION: A MIN data detection section 31 and a MAX data detection section 32 respectively detect the minimum value min (C,M,Y) and maximum value max (C,M,Y) of the color image data C, M, Y separated into three primary colors. Saturation information ci is obtained as ci=max(C,M,Y)-min(C,M, Y)-α, on the basis of these and a constantα. The constantαis set nearly equal to the value of max(C,M,Y)-min(C,M,Y), which is obtained when an image read section reads an achromatic image. Thus, ci=0 is obtained for the achromatic image.
