PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an inner coloration of a sintered body which becomes a factor for increasing an afterglow time to be effectively eliminated while suppressing whitening of the surface of the sintered body which becomes the cause of the reduction of an optical output in a ceramic scintillator comprising the sintered body of an oxysulfide fluorophor of a rare earth. SOLUTION: This scintillator is obtained by sintering an oxysulfide fluorophor powder of the rare earth at first, cutting the sintered body, for example to form a desired shape or size, and reacting the sintered body with a reactive gas containing oxygen and sulfur, for example generated by the decomposition of an oxysulfide powder in a furnace in an inert gas atmosphere at 900-1,600 deg.C. When the ceramic scintillator comprises the sintered body of a Pr-activated gadolinium oxysulfide fluorophore, the sintered body of the Pr-activated gadolinium oxysulfide fluorophore has the body color satisfying the formulas: 0.32<=x<=0.38, and 0.83x+0.075<=y<=0.83x+0.095 when the body color is represented by chromaticity coordinates (x, y).
