Transmitting DUA messages with protocol identification information

Method and device for transmission of messages based on Digital Private Network Signalling System (DPNSS) / Digital Access Signalling system (DASS) User Adaption Protocol (DUA). Protocol identification information corresponding to different signalling system protocols is set. A message to be transmitted and protocol identification information corresponding to the message are sent to a receiver. The receiver determines the signalling system protocol corresponding to the received message according to the received protocol identification information. It is therefore possible for different signalling protocol messages (e.g. DPNSS or DASS) to be transmitted through the same interface in a network device and the situation that messages of different protocols must be transmitted through different interfaces may be avoided. The present invention can use the interface identifier in the message to implement the transmission of the protocol identification information without any change to the DUA protocol itself, or use the reserved or spare bits ("protocol identification information" bit) in a common message header of the DUA protocol.
