An energy absorbing fastener apparatus is disclosed for fastening an integral child seat (16) disposed within a primary passenger seat back (18) of a primary passenger seat (14) of a motor vehicle. The apparatus interconnects the child seat (16) to a frame (20) of the primary passenger seat back (18) and includes a stress raiser (52, 54) to induce energy absorbing shearing and plastic deformation of the fastener apparatus. $$
