PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a process capable of measuring diameter and out-of-roundness with very high reliability. SOLUTION: This apparatus is used for measuring the diameter and out-of- roundness of a long workpiece, in particular, a round product, advanced in the longitudinal direction within a metal rolling mill system, and equipped with three or more laser-type triangulation devices 14. The triangulation devices 14 are directed toward a common intersection point 18 coinciding with the center of the workpiece. Each of laser beams 16 of the triangulation devices 14 runs on a common plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the workpiece. The triangulation devices 14 are disposed at substantially equal angular intervals.
