PURPOSE:To decrease a change in the color tone of a cell by adding a dichromatic dye having a complementary relation with the hue of a liquid crystal cell to the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The dye of the hue which is the complementary color to the hue of the liquid crystal cell 31 when the dichromatic dye does not exist is adopted for the dichromatic dye of a liquid crystal layer which is sandwiched between a pair of substrates 11 and 12 having electrodes 13, 23 for display and consists of the liquid crystal 33 contg. the dichromatic dye and having over 90 deg. and <=270 deg. helix angle in the thickness direction. The high time sharing driving characteristic is thereby improved and the color display with decreased unequal colors is enabled.
