<p>Folding knife apparatus (10) includes a blade (90) having a tang (110) secured to a case or housing (12). Wedging action between the tang (110) and the case (12) locks the blade open and closed. The tang (110) includes a longitudinally extending slot (120), and the case or housing (12) includes a pin (82) extending through the longitudinally extending slot (120). A spring (130) is disposed in the slot (120) and biases the blade (90) against the pin (82) to help lock the blade (90) in place, particularly in the open, use position. Axial movement of the blade (90) is required to unlock the blade (90) from its open position in order to pivot the blade (90). A cam relationship exists between a portion of the tang (110) and a portion of the case or housing (12) to urge the blade (90) to the closed position. <IMAGE></p> |
