PURPOSE:To provide a low-cost steering column of a good operability by using a simple transmission mechanism comprising a drive gear, a driven gear, and a link, and moving a telescopic tube in the axial direction to the front in rotating a tilt bracket up. CONSTITUTION:When fixture by a fixing means 40 is released, a backup plate 43 rotates clockwise to rotate a pole 42 counterclockwise through engagement of a cam protrusion with a pin 42a. A tilt bracket 14 tilts toward an upper dead center by action of a spring 21. A drive gear 23 is rotated at this time, and rotary motion of a driven gear 27 interlocked with this is converted to a linear motion by a link 31, so a telescopic tube 13 is moved axially toward the front. As a result, a steering wheel 17 assembled to the tilt bracket 14 through a freely rotatable steering upper shaft 16 is sprung up to retract, and moved to the front to retract. |
