<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten copying time by making the start of warm-up for the stabilization of a transfer belt fast. <P>SOLUTION: In a color copying machine 1 having a photoreceptor drum 9 on which a toner image corresponding to image information is held and an intermediate transfer belt 31 comprising freely rotational roll members and a belt member stretched and supported by the roll members, a tension control means 62 is provided.
