Treatment of workpieces which in the course of treatment undergo heating and for maintaining a predeterminable treatment temperature, are placed on a coolable workpiece holder. The workpiece holder (1) used has at least one closed cavity (2) containing a cooling medium (3) which melts at treatment temperatures and subsequently resolidifies. Cooling of the workpieces takes place as a result of the melting heat absorbed by the cooling medium.
