<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device for a game machine that displays a dynamic change of a pattern image for maintaining a player's interest. <P>SOLUTION: A variation value is set for every given number of vertical scanning signals (U1). For every vertical scanning signal, a display area is scrolled on a background image, and a background image in the display area is set as a background (U2). For every variation value, a plurality of types of pattern images, and a left and a right pattern images are set (U3, U4). For every variation value, a pattern image of a changed mode is set in sequence as a center pattern image (U5). For every vertical scanning signal series with a constant variation value set, a plurality of types of impact images are set in sequence (U6). Screen layout information is generated, which is set to superpose the background image, each pattern image and each impact image (U7).
