<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exterior expansion type air bag device which expands smoothly without getting caught on the edge of a hood or on wipers. <P>SOLUTION: A lid 8 is able to be vertically displaced with respect to a retainer 2 when a hook part 10 moves vertically inside an opening 16. When the air bag 4 expands, the lid 8 moves up and opens out due to expanding pressure of the air bag 4, thereby forming flaps 28 and 30. The flap 28 expanded at the front of a vehicle overlaps the outer surface of the rear fringe part of the hood 18. The flap 30 expanded at the rear of the hood 18 overlaps a cowl top 22 just under a windshield 20 and covers a wiper device 26. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
