A pivot joint (15) for connecting together two relatively movable members (12, and 14) includes a stepped opening (13) through one of such members (14) with an inwardly extending flange (26) at one end of such opening, an intermediate section (27), and a threaded section (28) at the opposite end of said opening. A retainer ring (48) threaded into said threaded section (28) captures a bearing mechanism (36) between said threaded retainer ring (48) and a further retaining ring (32) abutting said flange (26). A method of assembling the pivot joint is also disclosed.
