PURPOSE:To mix the documents and patterns with each other for display while avoiding the overlap between the documents and patterns, by displaying the pattern of the document designated via a keyboard and writing the documents into the blank areas of a relevant page. CONSTITUTION:A processor PC51 produces the pattern files 3 in parallel with each other based on the input given from a keyboard 53 as well as the inputs given from a document file 2, a document control file 1 and an image scanner 54 and registers these files 3 into a memory 52. A document identifier, a letter identifier, the document constitution information, the pattern arrangement information, etc., are registered into the file 1. Then the PC51 reads the file 1 designated with display by the keyboard 53 to display patterns on a CRT 55 after reading the page constitution information on the first page and the corresponding patterns out of the files 3. Then the documents of the first page are held, written and displayed on an idle area of the CRT 55.
