<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately predict the life of a developing device. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a reference toner image forming means for forming a reference toner image on a latent image carrier, and is equipped with a reference toner amount detection means which sets the amount of the toner left after transfer of the reference toner image remaining on the latent image carrier side in the case of transferring the reference toner image to a transfer medium on the same transfer condition as that in the case of normally forming an image or the amount of the toner of the post-transfer reference toner image obtained by transferring the reference toner image to the transfer medium on a reverse transfer condition to that in the case of normally forming the image as a 1st reference toner amount and detects the 1st reference toner amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
