<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resistor, the mounting area of which can be reduced when the resistor is mounted on a mounting substrate, and which has a highly accurate resistance value. SOLUTION: A resistor consists of first upper electrode layers 22 which are provided on the side sections of the main surface of a substrate 21, a resistance layer 23 which is electrically connected to the electrode layers 22, a protective layer 24 provided on the upper surface of the resistance layer 23, and second upper-surface electrode layers 25 which are provided on the upper surfaces of the first upper electrode layers 22 and parts of the side faces of the substrate 21.
