The valve drive is pref. for intake valves of reciprocating piston engines. Each valve has cams for min. and max. opening. A cup tappet in the cylinder head engages with sections of the second cam. A central tappet in the cup tappet engages with the first cam. A controllable driver device is located between the tappets. The driver arrangement (7) has driver elements (8), which are guided in one of the tappets (4,6), and are displaced inwards or outwards by one or more locking elements (9). The driver elements have associated concave inner contours on the cup tappet, or concave outer contours on the central tappet. In the area of the base circles of both cams (2a,b), the contours permit engagement of the driver elements. USE/ADVANTAGE - IC engine with low feedback action on locking elements, tolerance compensation between transmission elements to both cams.
