<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phakoemulsifying needle used for removing not only a residual cortex but also a cataract nucleus. <P>SOLUTION: The phakoemulsifying needle according to this invention comprises a shaft, a tip disposed at a distal end of the shaft and having a larger outer diameter than the shaft, and an aspiration lumen extending through the shaft and the tip. The tip has an opening communicating with the aspiration lumen, a ball-shaped surface, and a flat distal end having the opening.
