<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable modem transmission system providing efficient communication by monitoring an uplink noise level and changing a block code length for error correction depending on a noise occurrence state. <P>SOLUTION: An uplink signal reception section of a center control unit of the system monitors a noise level in an uplink frequency band in operation and calculates an error rate of uplink data for a prescribed time block at the same time. When the noise level or the error rate indicates a prescribed change, the error correction strength is calculated and an optimum block code length is calculated on the basis of the error correction strength.
