Spectacle lens edge machining system - uses peripheral edge data for spectacle lens to control final machining

The machining system uses an initial grinding stage for obtaining the required edge contour, followed by a facette grinding stage. The edge contour data of the lens is entered in a control processor, to allow subsequent control of the longitudinal or radial movement of the machined lens or the grinding disc. After the facette machining stage the edge contour data for the lens is fed to the processor for comparison with stored data representing the required edge contour, to allow the actual edge contour to be corrected.
