In the development of lithographic printing material with physical development nuclei between an aluminum (Al) substrate and a silver halide emulsion layer containing at least 95 mol% silver chloride, in which the amount of alumina removed would be at least 0.8 g/m<2> if development was carried out for 40 seconds in a solution with pH 13.0 at 25 deg C, at least one of these parameters is adjusted so that the amount removed is <= 0.6 g/m<2>.
