PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To massively purge evaporation in idling and to enable it by a relatively simple control. SOLUTION: This engine control device purging the evaporation by controlling a purge control valve 21 provided in a purge channel 19 communicating an air chamber 9 with a fuel tank 18 is provided with an HC sensor 24 for detecting the generation quantity of the evaporation and an ECU 12 controlling the idling speed at idling and controlling the purge control valve 21. When the ECU 12 decides that the evaporation generating quantity is a lot based on the sensor signal from the HC sensor 24, the ECU sets the idling speed higher than the usual in purging the evaporation. In this case, where the purge rate is constant, the purge quantity flowing into the intake channel can be increased with increase in the intake air quantity at idling so as to increase the allowance to the disturbance (evaporation) in the combustion phase.
