An LCD is provided to reduce the thickness and the manufacturing cost of a biaxial film or a uniaxial film, by attaching the biaxial film on the outside of one of two substrates and the uniaxial film on the outside of the other of the two substrates. A first substrate(110) is disposed to face a second substrate(210). A first polarizing plate(12) is positioned at the outer surface of the first substrate. A second polarizing plate(22) is positioned at the outer surface of the second substrate. A biaxial film(14) is positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate. A uniaxial film(24) is formed between the second substrate and the second polarizing plate. The transmittance axis of the first polarizing plate is perpendicular to the transmittance axis of the second polarizing plate.
