The method involves modulating centre luminance of an illuminant over a ratio of duration of light phases and dark phases by measuring an operating parameter of the illuminant. The time of the measurement is synchronized with a control of the illuminant. A current measurement of an electrical current and a voltage measurement of an electrical voltage are made by the illuminant in the light phases. A luminous measurement of environmental luminance is made in the dark phase. The durations of the light and dark phases are extended for executing the current and/or voltage measurements.
