The laser oscillator has a sealed housing (10) containing the laser medium and a pair of opposing electrodes (4a,4b), extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the housing, for providing laser oscillation of the laser medium. The laser medium is circulated within the housing and cooled via a heat exchanger, for removing the heat resulting from the discharge between the electrodes. The cooling medium is fed to and from the heat exchanger via respective entry and exit ports (134,136), positioned symmetrically relative to the housing axis, when viewed from above.
