<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dimming device which can improve an optical function and an imaging device which can improve performance, picture quality, and reliability by arranging the dimming device in an optical path. <P>SOLUTION: The dimming device is arranged in front of an optical low-pass filter in the optical path of an imaging system of the imaging device and has a liquid crystal element and a polarizing plate, the axis of polarization of the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal alignment direction of the liquid crystal element being different from the light beam separation directions of an ordinary light beam and an extraordinary light beam generated by the optical low-pass filter. The imaging device has the dimming device with the polarizing plate and liquid crystal element arranged in front of the optical low-pass filter in the optical path of the imaging system, the axis of polarization of the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal alignment direction of the liquid crystal element being different from the light beam separation directions of the ordinary light beam and extraordinary light beam generated by the optical low-pass filter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
