<p>The invention relates to a process for the production of p-nitrophenols by oxidation of the corresponding p-nitroso-phenols. The p-nitrosophenol is brought in contact with an acid reaction medium in which it is at least sparingly soluble, and which contains nitrate- or nitrite-ions or a nitrogen oxide. By "aerating" the medium with oxygen the nitrosophenol is at a moderate temperature and pressure quickly and practically completely converted into the corresponding nitrophenol which is separated in a very pure form.</p> |
