Fire survival overgarment, intended for example for use by a fireman when fighting a forest fire. It is characterised in that it comprises a cagoule 1, open towards the bottom, made from a fire-resistant material, such as polyphenolic fibres, which is slipped over the head and is extended laterally and towards the bottom by a wide covering 3 made from a fire-resistant material, such as polyphenolic fibres, in order to form an insulating cloak which envelopes a person entirely, the said cagoule comprising, in its inner part, a member 5 of the pocket type or the like for fastening a cartridge 6 of compressed breathing gas, making it possible to breathe autonomously for a period of the order of at least one to several minutes. <IMAGE>
