PURPOSE: To enable the speed change point of a speed change unit to suit not only the operation characteristics of the driver but also load, for example, road gradient by shifting the speed change point in the direction of relatively high driven speed when specific conditions are met. CONSTITUTION: A control system 6 for a speed change unit of automobile has a structure taking into consideration the load applied to the automobile, engine speed and engine torque at the time when speed change point is detected. A circuit 24 of the control system 6 for a speed change unit detects whether or not engine torque is above a first threshold value indicating automobile pulling operation, whether or not the output of an accelerator is under a second threshold value indicating a non-accelerating running, and whether or not engine torque is above a value obtained by adding the second threshold value to the torque indicating the running resistance solely for characteristic flat surface. When the three conditions are met, a signal 27 is generated for shifting the speed change point in the direction of relatively high driven speed. |
