The load (C) is moved by means of a traction cable (2), which extends from the load, to be displaced, to a fixed point (3), where the mechanism (4) providing the tractive force is located. The movement is produced by means of two jaws, which are capable of locking and releasing the cable. One of the jaws is fixed and the other is mobile. Movement is produced by the following procedure. The cable is locked by the fixed jaw (5) and released by the mobile jaw. The mobile jaw is moved, in the direction that takes it nearer to the load and at the end of this movement the mobile jaw locks on to the cable. The fixed jaw releases the cable and the mobile jaw, with the cable is moved in a direction, towards the fixed point. The procedure is repeated and the load moved in a series of short movements.
